After our quick run from the Eastern part of Skåne, we found ourselves at the Malmö Arena Hotel with a view of the Öresund Bridge – not at all bad! And a shopping centre right next door, we could have ended up in a much worse place! Oh wait – we came from one of those 😉
On Friday, we took a train to Ystad and met up with a friend of mine from Hamburg. She and her partner were over for the Jazz Festival there, as they have been for the past four years, so we decided to meet up. First we had some very nice lunch from a vegetarian buffet at Helsa på cafe and sat in the yard where it was a little windy, but sunny. Then we wandered around a little and the two of them offered us a lift to Ystad Saltsjöbad, from where we’d have to walk back.
That turned out to be a very good idea, such a gorgeous place! Even if the service thought was not quite there with the staff – I got a feeling they were mainly there to look good (and they did 😉 ). After some drinks on the terrace, we said our goodbyes as their concert was about to start and went down to the beach. It wasn’t quite beach weather by then, pretty cold in fact – but that doesn’t stop a person from Iceland 😀
Saturday we did laundry in the hotel – which meant we had to wash it ourselves in their machine and the non-drying dryer. I went to see a photo exhibition at the Arena, Världar av Liv by Mattias Klum, which was really interesting and made you think about how we are destroying this planet… In the afternoon we rented bicycles from the hotel and took a little tour into Malmö, to the Malmöhus Slott Museum and then to the beach. What a great day we had and as you can see the weather was gorgeous!
Today we took the train to Lund and then wanted to take the bus to Göteborg that we had booked online. All we saw was a bus to Oslo which we didn’t board. As it turned out, we should have done that… as it goes to Oslo via Göteborg. How we were to know that I have no idea, nowhere during the booking process or on the ticket was any sign of this being the bus to Oslo. So basically, we bought two return tickets between Lund and Göteborg and won’t use any of it – as we are not going back to Lund on Tuesday. Very annoying to waste money like that 😦
Anyway, we had to get to Göteborg as Runa’s kids were coming there to meet her. So we bought a train ticket instead and got here only 20 minutes later than originally planned. I just wanted to get to my hotel room at that point and have to say that I’m really happy with it. Even though the bathroom designer clearly was drunk…
Tomorrow I’ll explore Göteborg, hopefully on foot and with a working camera – that was also a bit unwilling to cooperate earlier 😉
